My version of the Phantom of the Opera.
*also check out this cartoon version

I don't know how long it took exactly. I started it awhile ago, and lost my taste for it. I recently went back to it, and I've been working on it off and on.
Ive been watching some Korean and Japanese movies lately, so the phantom may look slightly asian.
I also watched the Lon Chaney Version (the one with sound)
If you never seen it, its public domain,
so you can watch it HERE

It may be the best painting of this style that I ever done.
I'm sure I'll hate it in a few weeks. Which isn't a bad thing.
It would mean I've gotten better than this.

Be sure to check out the close up shot, Here

I listened to a lot of Mogwai, The Brother Kite, Third I View, and The Cinematics. I tried to listen to the Iron Maiden song (which rocks), however, it didn't fit the mood, and made me want to paint in some lightning bolts...behind the silhouette of a black stallion on its hind legs... and maybe some sweet battle armor ('cause the song rocks so hard).

I DID NOT listen to the musical.
because while operas are alright, musicals are not.
No way.
No musicals for me. Too busy. I gotta drive race cars... when I'm not flying jets... which I happen to own.

I also like to fight werewolves.

ok... I like that 'me first and gimme gimmes' cover.
but thats it.

Beautiful. I like the lighting, and the really dark, atmospheric palate.

Soft, dark, and dreamlike, with the barest hint of the macabre. If nothing else, you got the atmosphere right.

thanks

i originally wanted to show a greater hint of erik's disfigurement on the exposed side, but the more i thought about it, the more i liked the idea of one side being completely fine, while the other side would be completely disfigured.
thats why i left nose section of the mask. thinking maybe there isnt a real nose under there (which i guess wouldnt make too much sense; he probably would sound funny when he sings)

i did make what would be his normal eye white, just so it hints that what appears to be beautiful isnt quite right

i originally wanted to make it slightly more orange, for the lighting coming from the front right, but it took away from the over all feel of the picture.

thanks for the look and the fav

In the original story he has no nose. Hey, maybe that's why he sounds the way he does.
